Cheeseburger Skillet

I know what you’re thinking... ‘Poppy, what on Earth is a cheeseburger skillet?’ Well, dear reader, it’s basically a deconstructed burger cooked in one pan, so that you can all grab your buns and start digging in. It’s a fun twist on a classic and a way to spice up your boring burger patties. And it is bloomin’ delicious. Please note, you’ll need a pan with a lid for this recipe. Ingredients

  • onion 1 (diced)
  • garlic cloves 3 (crushed)
  • red Leicester 100 g (grated)
  • mild cheddar cheese 100 g (grated)
  • beef stock cube 1
  • beef mince 750 g
  • garlic pepper 1 tsp
  • onion salt 1 tsp
  • garlic granules 1 tsp
  • onion granules 2 tsp
  • Worcester sauce 1 tbsp
  • ketchup 2 tbsp
  • American mustard 2 tbsp
  • brioche burger buns 4 (toasted)
  • gherkins to serve (sliced)
  • crispy onions to serve

Method

Prep the ingredients

  • Peel and dice the onion. Peel and crush the garlic. Grate the Red Leicester and cheddar cheese.
  • Make up the beef stock cube with 50ml water per serving, for example if you’re cooking for 4, you’ll need 200ml.

Cook the mince

  • Heat a dash of oil in a large frying pan over a high heat. Add the beef mince, garlic pepper, and onion salt. Fry for 8-10 minutes, breaking up the mince with the back of the spoon. Once the mince is cooked, remove the from the pan, keeping the fat in the pan.
  • Add the onion to the pan and fry for 3-4 minutes, add the garlic and cook for a minute until fragrant. Add the garlic granules, onion granules and Worcestershire sauce, deglaze the pan, scraping all the browned bits.
  • Add the ketchup, American mustard, beef stock, and cooked mince to the pan. Bring to a simmer and leave for 3-4 minutes until thickened.

Finish the dish & plate up

  • Season with salt and pepper, sprinkle the grated cheeses on top and cover with a lid. Leave for 10 minutes until the cheese is completely melted through.
  • Meanwhile, slice and toast the brioche buns, slice the gherkins.
  • Plate up - serve the cheeseburger skillet in scoops in the toasted brioche buns, with gherkins, crispy onions and your favourite condiments. Enjoy!
